When it comes to embracing mobile enterprise opportunities and installing mobile capabilities within their organizations, European IT departments are outpacing North American institutions. Forty-three percent of European IT departments surveyed said they already have or will soon implement a corporate mobile app store for workers, compared to 26 percent of North American respondents.
According to Forrester, the escalated pace of mobile enterprise implementation by European IT departments is likely driven by those organizations’ desire to control how mobile devices are brought into the workplace. Instead of allowing workers to drive this mobile transition, companies are offering guidance in the integration of these setups.
European companies tend to focus on improving mobile engagement and implementing a strong mobile device management (MDM) solution. Thus far, about 40 percent of companies say they are happy with their MDM approach.
But, holes exist in this European approach, according to Forrester. While companies are on the ball in terms of embracing mobile innovation, companies are moving forward without a coherent strategy that conforms to established best practices. European businesses can differ widely in how they tackle mobile enterprise implementation, resulting in a lack of standardization.
Lessons for North American Companies to Apply
Forrester highlights strategies that companies could use to better structure mobile deployments. For one, businesses need to take time to map out visions for mobile engagement. As valuable as this process can be in terms of reaching mobile consumers, it should be backed by a well-defined strategy and a clear understanding of short- and long-term goals.
Companies must also look beyond the implementation phase of mobile enterprise and consider how they plan to build on this existing platform. Once mobile solutions are in place, which additional improvements could be made to make the product more relevant to the target audience?
Finally, standardization would improve operations and foster efficient methods of managing mobile platforms. IT specialists should work with other departments to brainstorm, develop and define solutions for mobile platforms.
